#Moment4Change #Responsibility #Mindset
We are bombarded with messages and information throughout the day and mostly, it's not useful. But how about taking a moment to challenge yourself and to ask if there is more you should be doing?
What
Our team's idea is a "Moment for Change". The idea is for engineering companies to regularly send their employees a message or notification with a prompt about responsibility.
How
The prompt can be in many forms, whether it be a statement about responsibility, a question to the employee to contemplate, a suggestion about something new to try or just an interesting fact. The message can be sent in a way and at a frequency that suits the individual. It should be a nudge, not a directive. If the company wants to make it more interactive, it would also be possible to take polls and share links to relevant articles or more information.
Why
The purpose of the idea is to encourage the engineering industry to take a greater collective responsibility, and to be globally sustainable. We need to become more accountable.
This system will act as a gentle encouragement towards a sustainable mindset and a better understanding of how our actions influence our world. Just a small reminder can inspire responsible ways of thinking and promote discussion amongst employees and people around them both professionally and personally.
While this message should just take a moment, over time it will foster long-lasting changes.

Hi team, was great to meet you yesterday and discuss your idea in more detail, it has progressed really nicely! I know you're all quite busy this weekend, but I'm here if you need more feedback before Monday. In case we don't catch up again, best of luck with the submission!

Hi Luce, Andrew, James, Ursula and Joseph! Thanks for submitting your concept note, and nice to virtually meet you all.
I've been assigned as your mentor on this project. It's an interesting concept, especially the snappy title, this could definitely catch on. I'm by no means an expert, but hoping my comments and questions can help draw out the expertise you each already have within. I've summarised my initial thoughts below, particularly on how we can present your idea in line with the marking criteria. (To briefly give context to my observations, my background is as a engineering consultant.)
You've come up with some great high level examples of what these prompts could be. I'm sure you're already planning to do so, but it would be great to explorer further what some of these prompts could be specifically, i.e. giving examples of things you might undertake in your respective companies. This could pretty much guarantee you top points for the 'Responsible' marking criteria, by each giving 'SMART' personal actions.
The 'what, how, why' structure is great for demonstrating the 'Regenerative' marking criteria. Thinking about how the scheme could gain momentum, who would help manage the delivery of these prompts? Would it be a scheme managed centrally, or would it have localised 'champions'?
Following on from above, would the prompts change by sector or company? Targeted sector specific information might be more directly useful, but might not be as 'inclusive', i.e. ensuring diverse viewpoints are presented that might not be directly relevant, but could spark discussion.
I really like your idea to make it more interactive. As you pointed out at the start of your concept note, professionals can be bombarded with information, what would make these stand out against the noise? How can they be made less static?
Your concept is particularly relevant in the current digital world. What sort of technology would you employ to disseminate this information? Would this be the same in developing and developed countries?
In terms of communication, we can continue dialogue on this platform, but if you would like anything else, such as a video call, please let me know.
Please feel free to respond to anything I've said, or throw out more thoughts, and hopefully our dialogue can make this idea even stronger.
